Woman Charged With Animal Abuse After Abandoning Dog With Tumor

A woman was charged with various counts of animal abuse after she abandoned her dog with a massive 42-pound tumor at a Newport Beach animal hospital.

Henry, the dog in question, was found to be wandering alone in the sand with a huge mass on his right side. Later, he was taken to the Newport Beach Animal Control and underwent surgery.

The surgery, fortunately, was successful and the dog is on track for recovery! Also, the entire surgery was covered by donations!

Now, the previous owner, Sherri Haughton, has been charged with misdemeanor counts of animal neglect, failure to care for an animal, animal abuse causing life-threatening injuries and interfering with investigation.

She had delayed investigation by providing false information. She has not been arrested, but will appear in court on January 13th, and could face up to two years behind bars. There are many options for owners who can no longer care for their dogs, including turning them into animal services, instead of cruelly abandoning them. Hopefully the owner will get the justice she deserves for abandoning this innocent creature!
